Mary Casserly

Mary Casserly has been the Assistant Director for Collections at the University at Albany since 2001. Before coming to UAlbany she was the Head of Collection Development at the University of Maine. As the Assistant Director for Collections, Dr. Casserly supervises and coordinates the activities of the University Libraries' bibliographers and subject specialists and manages the Libraries' acquisitions budget. The M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections and Archives, the Preservation Department and the Librarian for Digital Initiatives are also part of the Collections Division.
Mary Casserly earned a B.A. from George Washington University in international affairs and a masters from Drexel University and a Ph.D. from Rutgers University in library and information science. She has authored articles and book chapters on a variety of aspects of collection management and scholarly communication. Her most recent articles include "Developing a Concept of Collection for the Digital Age" which was published in the October 2002 issue of portal: Libraries and the Academy and "Web Citation Availability: Analysis and Implications for Scholarship," which she coauthored with Jim Bird and which appears in the July 2003 issue of College & Research Libraries.
