MISSION:
To assist the University at Albany with the development and implementation
of a vigorous fundraising program for the University Libraries and
help to ensure its success.
MEMBER RESPONSIBILITY:
- Ensure that fundraising efforts align clearly with the mission
statement and priorities of the University at Albany.
- Develop an understanding of the role fundraising plays in the
life of the University at Albany and the University Libraries.
- Understand and articulate the need for fundraising for the Libraries;
help build consensus, and mobilize support.
- Educate and encourage a variety of internal and external University
constituencies (e.g., alumni/ae, business colleagues, corporations
and foundations, faculty, staff, University at Albany Foundation
board members and Foundation members, and numerous friends of
the University at Albany) to participate in raising funds for
the libraries; help set goals for giving.
- Help identify, evaluate and assign major gift prospects for
the libraries.
- Be donors to the Libraries at the President's Club level.
- Promote ongoing communication with the University at Albany
Foundation Board of Directors.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CHAIR OF THE COMMITTEE:
- Work with Dean and Director of Libraries to plan and schedule
meetings and plan agendas.
- Review all materials to be discussed at committee meeting prior
to the meeting, and discuss their presentation with the Dean &
Director of Libraries and the Libraries' Development Officer.
- Preside over each committee meeting; call for a vote on items
for which a vote is required.
- Assist the Dean & Director of Libraries in the assignment
of committee members to specific projects.
- Be signator or co-signator to major gift proposals that request philanthropic
support for the Libraries.
STAFF SUPPORT:
Committee members will be given regular assistance by professional and clerical
staff in order to fulfill all of their responsibilities.
NUMBER OF MEETINGS PER YEAR:
The committee will meet twice per year at Homecoming (October) and during
spring semester.
IDENTIFICATION AND ENLISTMENT:
Committee members will be selected by the Dean & Director of Libraries. The
Libraries' Development Officer will be an ex officio member of the committee.
