NetID's in the University Libraries

The University's new NetID can be used to access various electronic services on campus. For more information about NetID, see Understanding Your ID Numbers: Your NetID.

At this time, NetID's can be used to logon directly to some library systems.

Note: Non-University "courtesy borrowers" will continue to use the last nine digits of their SUNYCard barcode to access the library services available to them.

How to Use NetID's in the University Libraries

For Off-Campus Access to Databases and Online Journals


You can gain access to these resources from off campus by either the barcode on your SUNYCard or your NetID used with your Unix cluster password. Note that this password may differ from your MYUAlbany password and must be configured separately. It is recommended that you configure this password to be the same as your MYUAlbany password.

Forgot your Unix cluster password or want to change it? You can configure your password online by connecting to:

For My Minerva Account in the Minerva Online Catalog


The Minerva online catalog allows you to access your patron account through the link called "My Minerva Account." This requires your NetID used with your Unix cluster password. Note that this password may differ from your MYUAlbany password and must be configured separately. It is recommended that you configure this password to be the same as your MYUAlbany password.

My Minerva Account gives you access to your patron record for borrowing library materials. You can review your current loans and loan history, renew a book, and place a recall on an item that is currently out.

For Interlibrary Loan and UA Delivery Services Through ILLiad


UA Delivery Services is a document delivery service that is part of the existing ILLiad system. ILLiad users must use their NetID to log on instead of their library barcode. However, the same password used to log on to ILLiad prior to August 18, 2003 will still work.

The NetID passwords for library systems are maintained separately from the passwords maintained by the University. The Libraries recommend you change your ILLiad/UA Delivery Services password to be the same as for the other systems you access via NetID. That way, you will have only one password to remember.

To change your ILLiad/UA Delivery Services password, please do one of the following:

1. If you know your existing password, connect to ILLiad. Log in, and select "Change Password."

2. If you have forgotten your existing password, go to:

ILLiad: Forgot Your Password?

Fill out the form, and you will be issued a temporary password to log onto ILLiad. We recommend that you change this password to match your NetID password.

What if I haven't been issued a NetID?

If you don't have a NetID, you can continue to use the last nine digits of your SUNYCard barcode number (and your existing password) to access ILLiad.

To obtain your NetID, go to Password Set/Reset.

If you have forgotten your existing password, go to ILLiad: Forgot Your Password?. Fill out the form, and you will be issued a temporary password to log onto ILLiad. If you experience problems, contact Interlibrary Loan at 518-442-3613 during business hours.

What about the Libraries' other systems and services that require online logon?

None at this time. For ERes, the Libraries online course reserves system, students will continue to be given a shared class password by their instructor in order to access course readings.
