I am working for the U@A Libraries, first because I believe strongly that public
education, at all levels, is a basic requirement to maintain a real, viable democracy.
Participation in the government process, from informed voting to holding office, requires
an educated public and that can only be assured through access for all to public education.
Next, I support the U@A Libraries because the library is the core of any education system.
Last, I support the U@A Libraries because I love libraries and just about grew up in my
local public library and then worked in a library all through high school and college,
still my favorite job a half a century and many jobs later.
Georgiana and Jim Panton developed and continue to support The Libraries' Fund for Materials in Fine Arts and Performing Arts.
