Regulations Governing the Use of the University Libraries

The regulations governing the use of the University Libraries have been formulated to ensure fair access to resources and services, to provide facilities conductive to serious study and to protect the collections.  Library users who do not comply with library regulations will have their borrowing privileges revoked and will be subject to judicial referral. The authority to establish library regulations comes from Section 249a of the New York State Education Law.

GENERAL RULES

  1. Smoking or the use of smokeless tobacco is prohibited in the University Libraries.
  2. Pets, with the exception of Service Dogs and other pets are not permitted in the University Libraries.
  3. Behavior, which interferes with the study and research of others (i.e. rowdiness, loud noise or talking, offensive behavior) will not be tolerated.
  4. Attempted removal of library materials or property without check-out or without proper authorization is prohibited. When leaving the building all library users must be prepared to permit an inspection of all cases, knapsacks, handbags and any other parcels. ( 9 NYCRR 300.29)
  5. Mutilation of library materials by marking, underlining, removing pages or portions of pages, removing bindings, or in any other way damaging or defacing library materials, is prohibited.
  6. Concealing library materials in the library for the exclusive use of an individual or group is prohibited.
  7. Harassment of library staff or other library users will not be tolerated.
  8. Being in an unauthorized area of any of the Library buildings, remaining in the Library buildings after closing, or after being asked to leave during emergency situations or drills, is prohibited. Users are expected to have completed all library transactions by closing time.
  9. Roller blades, skate boards and bicycles are not allowed in any of the Library buildings.

UNIVERSITY ALCOHOL POLICY

Consumption or possession of alcohol in the University Libraries is prohibited in accordance with the University Alcohol Policy.
