Dear Colleagues,
I am very pleased to provide you with a copy of the University Libraries’ Strategic Goals and Assessment Plan for the 2004-2005 academic year and beyond. The past decade has been a period of expansion, steady growth, renovation and rapid change for Albany’s University Libraries. We have adapted current technologies to add new - and improve existing services - acquire and expand collections, deliver information resources to the desktop and develop innovative teaching spaces for our user education programs. We have adapted old spaces to new uses, opened the arresting and delightful New Library to house our science collections, special collections, university archives and preservation laboratory, restored the beautiful Dewey Graduate Library in historic Hawley Hall, and renovated the University Library to make it both more functional and attractive to our users. All of this change was accomplished through careful planning, the judicious use of resources and the intelligent hard work and dedication of a committed and talented library faculty and staff.
Strategic planning and the annual assessment of progress toward our goals are integral to everything we do in the Libraries. This year, as we strive to fulfill our mission to strengthen and enhance teaching, research and service at the University at Albany, we have developed ambitious plans, goals and performance activities that will challenge us to be creative, innovative and responsive to our users’ needs. We look forward to the challenge.
Sincerely,
Meredith A. Butler
Dean & Director of Libraries
