Not on shelf? Can't find an item?
Need it when processing is complete?
Use this form to report an item that is not on the shelf when or where Minerva indicates it should be available. This form may also be used to request access to an item in processing, under consideration, or with some other temporary status which makes it unavailable.
Before submitting this form, try these suggestions:
- Ask for assistance at the Circulation Desk Staff can determine if the item was just returned or explore other possibilities. Staff are generally available to double-check the shelf location.
- Check the library Is it at the University Library, Dewey, Science, or elsewhere?
- Check the collection Is it in Reference, Oversized, Microfilm, or elsewhere? Each collection is in a different physical location!
- Check the status Complete this form when the status is "On Shelf" but it not in its proper shelf location. The form can also be used to request an item with a status such as "In Processing", "Under consideration", "In Bindery", and so on. Library staff will investigate whether the item can be made available or if an Interlibrary Loan request will provide quicker access.
To seek assistance with access to the item in question, proceed with this report. You may complete an interlibrary loan request at any point in this process [be sure to add "Item could not be located on shelf" in the Notes field on the interlibrary loan request]. After you submit the report below, the following steps will occur:
- Library staff will review the Not on Shelf report and check the shelf for the item. Staff will complete at least three checks and a review of recent circulation activity in their effort to locate the item.
- If the item is found, you will be notified. If you placed an interlibrary loan request, please cancel it.
- If the item is not found after seven days, it is declared missing. You will be notified. You may place an interlibrary loan request for the missing item if you have not yet done so.
- For items in processing, under consideration, or with some other temporary status, library staff will expedite processing whenever possible and hold the item for you when it becomes available. If the item requires extended time in processing, library staff will contact you to suggest other means of access such as interlibrary loan.
