The Downtown Dane Has Come Home!

Last semester, The Great Dane Project gave the UAlbany community the opportunity to demonstrate their school pride by decorating a 4-foot tall fiberglass Great Dane statue. Eighteen groups participated in the project including one representing the Downtown Campus. The UAlbany community was invited to submit photographs taken around campus. The Downtown Dane was then painted purple and the photos were used to create a collage depicting life on the downtown campus. The Project culminated on September 26, when the 19th Dane, the “Community Dane,” was decorated in honor of our 19th President, Robert J. Jones.

All nineteen Danes have been on display in the lobby of the Science Library since September, and have now been moved to their permanent homes. The Downtown Dane proudly stands guard of our campus in the front lobby of Husted Hall. Be sure to stop by and give him a pat on the nose!
