Meet the Dewey Staff: Bridget Collins!

Meet our newest staff member at Dewey, Bridget Collins! Bridget is the Administrative Support Assistant here at the Dewey Library.

What are your responsibilities?

I help with anything related to the building - so access to the building, maintenance of the building, and access and maintenance of everything in the building. And then I also help with circulation and another big duty is closing on Friday nights.

What do you enjoy most about working here so far?

I really enjoy that I feel like every hour I'm helping someone and you get to actually see their appreciation. So it's really a good feeling to go home at the end of the day and be like, "I helped ten people today!"

Where did you work before coming to Dewey?

My most recent job was at the NYS Department of Tax and Finance. I moved here a couple of years ago and that was a good temporary job.

How did you get into the library field?

I'm trained as a historian, so a library is my second home.

Do you have any advice for library users?

Well, having used a lot of libraries, the main thing for me -- my priorities are food and rest -- is go to the library prepared for the whole day. Bring something comfy if you get cold and know where the cafeteria is so you can get a snack, and just make a day of it. You don't want to go home because then you're going to lose your rhythm.

What would you like students to know about you?

Be careful driving to campus because I bike. Look out for bikers!
