Giving to the M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections and Archives

The M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections and Archives welcomes gifts of materials, including collections and books, that fit within our collection development policy. The Department actively collects materials for the Archives of Public Affairs and Policy Collection, Business, Literary, and Miscellany Collection, German and Jewish Intellectual Émigré Collection, University Archives, Miriam Snow Mathes Historical Children's Literature Collection, as well as other Unique and Specialized Books and Ephemera.

The Grenander Department is very appreciative of monetary gifts that allow us to care for and provide enhanced access to our collections. Examples of projects funded by donors include:

The archival processing of collections including the papers of Eugene P. Link, the records of United University Professions, and the papers of Karl M. Otto Paetel

Digitizing and describing photographs for the online University at Albany Libraries' Digital Collections Database

The care and reformatting of films from the papers of Norman Studer and the records of the New York Republican State Committee

The purchase, cataloging, and preservation of books for the Miriam Snow Mathes Historical Children's Literature Collection

Marcia Brown named the Department as the repository of her life's work, including her correspondence, manuscripts, drawings, final art, books, and puppets. Ms. Brown established a fund to aid in processing and preserving her collection in 1994, with a $10,000 donation. Since that time, Ms. Brown has continued to give generously to the University Libraries and the M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections and Archives. The Department's research room was officially designated the Marcia Brown Research Room on November 2, 2001, to honor Ms. Brown's intellectual and financial support of the M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections and Archives and the University Libraries.

Additional information is available at the Giving to the University Libraries page.

Individuals and organizations are encouraged to discuss intended donations of materials with the appropriate Department staff member who will be able to offer guidance and information about the donation process and work with you to develop a mutually acceptable Memorandum of Agreement for your collection.
