Book Funds and Endowments
The University Libraries offer many opportunities to create
commemorative and memorial book funds as well as collection
endowments. These opportunities range from general library collections to specific subjects and academic programs, or they can focus on rare books and special collections. A gift of $10,000-20,000 or more could be used as:

  • A collection enrichment fund providing library resources in a variety of formats for new curricular developments in general, or in a specific group of subjects (e.g., Nanoscience core collection; forensic molecular biology core research materials; Cultural Studies; digitized scholarly journal collections in various collections).
  • An endowment to create a collection of media or books for use in the classroom, in the library, or on the Web, in specific subjects and/or academic programs.

Interactive Media Center
Specific opportunities abound for supporting collection development in media, mircroforms, periodicals, and the reserves department. Here are some examples, $3,000-5,000:

  • Braille printer/embosser, to provide Braille output for Library resources to increasing numbers of visually impaired students and faculty.
  • Video-editing workstation, composed of high-speed computer, peripherals, and software to provide digital audio/video editing capabilities for export to VHS or digital format. Using Adobe Premiere software, students can produce broadcast-quality movies for video/multimedia/Web for class assignments.
  • BBC-Time/Life Shakespeare Video Collection. Replace current 37-title series, which has been heavily used since 1990, with DVD series.
