A Message from the Dean
The University at Albany's Libraries
stand at the center of intellectual and academic experience in the
Capital Region-not only for the students and scholars who
are a part of the University, but for the larger community
as well.
Because this university
is one of the four University Centers of the State of New
York, the Libraries' resources are in great demand from diverse
populations who use the Libraries on site and from great distances.
State assistance to the University provides for only 23 percent
of our budget-now, more than ever, we count on your support.
You have joined us in the
past, sustaining and guiding our growth. Private support from
generous, far-sighted donors has allowed us to build excellent
research collections, fund special projects, and achieve specific
programmatic or technological goals. Your support enabled
us to undertake, in 1999, a Campaign for the Libraries to
complete and equip our new Library facility, and to upgrade
the existing University Libraries.
We count on you to help
us build tomorrow's University Libraries. Join us in the challenge
to make the University Libraries the measure of the University
at Albany's vitality in the 21st century.
Frank D'Andraia
Dean and Director of Libraries
