A Mac workstation for MIDI applictions with keyboard
MIDI Workstation with Macintosh

Audio and Video on the Macintosh and Windows CP Platforms

Working with audio and/or video can be quite time-consuming and intimidating. Anything is possible here. Patrons add video to PowerPoint, extract stills from DVD, edit movies recorded with personal camcorders, prepare digital lectures, digitize and transcribe taped interviews. Patrons are encouraged to contact us for guidance before they get started.

We support patrons who need to work outside the IMC. We loan an assortment of cables, adapters and peripheral equipment to connect devices to other computers. We research available no-cost software, that users may opt to download rather than purchase the sophisticated applications available in the IMC.

Sophisticated A/V Workstations

In support of the Digital Music classes a dedicated Macintosh workstation is equipped with MBox, Tascam stereo cassette deck, Samson mixpad, Edirol Studio Canvas 64 Voice Sound module, and Roland PC70 midi keyboard. The additional audio applications located only on this workstation include: Pro Tools, SoundHack, Max/MSP (with Jitter and GRM Tools) Peak, Soundtrack and Audacity. IMC patrons are welcome to use this workstation; however, there is minimal staff support.

A robust Dell Precision 870 with Matrox Extreme RT X100 Pro video capture board, dual monitors, and VCR is available for more sophisticated audio/video digital projects. The applications supporting this workstation include: Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Audition, Encore DVD, and Photoshop. Sony Vegas Movie Studio + DVD, and Audacity are also available.

Web Application Support

The lab is fully equipped to support a wide range of Web projects and applications. Our computers are loaded with the Adobe Suite of software, including, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Flash. We have FTP capabilities. In addition, we have Photoshop, ImageReady, and Adobe's Captivate available for creation of sophisticated Web projects.

We consult with students, faculty and staff on their Web projects. We encourage contact by email, telephone, or dropping in. Our free classes well attended.

Accessibility Enhanced Workstation Services for Persons with Disabilities

One height-adjustable WIN XP workstation is available for persons registered for services. It is equipped with a Braille printer, flatbed scanner, headphones and software that support persons that may be visually and/or hearing impaired or require a non-traditional mode of study. Applications include: Dragon Naturally Speaking, Duxbury Braille Translator, Jaws, Zoom Text and Kurzweil 1000.

These applications provide audio output or visual enhancements as described in the "Practical Guide to Library Services to Persons with Disabilities." Download the Guide in Acrobat (PDF) format. In addition, much of the software listed on the left is available on this workstation.

A/V Playback Area

The A/V Playback Area is located in the open area in front of the service desk. All audio playback stations are equipped with headphones. Users may checkout extra headphones and splitters so that two or more people can listen to one program.

The A/V Playback Area is a convenient location for listening and viewing media from the Library Collection and items that have been placed on Reserve.
