Temporary Services Positions (2) for the 2008-2009 Academic Year
University Libraries – Reference Department
(contingent upon budget approval)
Join our team of reference librarians and deliver professional information services to students, staff and faculty of the University community. Working in partnership with librarians, these graduate students will assist users locating and using print and online information resources in the University Library and/or Science Library. The graduate students are expected to perform the same tasks as a beginning general reference librarian. Specific projects and duties vary depending upon the qualifications and interests of the student and departmental needs.
Primary Responsibilities: Answer questions posed in person, by telephone, and electronically by faculty, staff, students and the general public. Participate in special projects (e.g. Facebook development, IM services, database trial assessments, etc.)
Hours/Compensation: 20 hours per week, $13.00 per hour, 15 weeks per semester
Supervisor: Candace Merbler
Requirements: Matriculation as a graduate student in the Department of Information Studies in the College of Computing and Information and completion of six hours of course credit; successful completion of, or enrollment in, ISP 605, Information Sources and Services. Preferred: in addition to ISP 605, completion of, or enrollment in, of the sources classes, such as humanities, business, or government documents. Desirable: Interest in pursuing a career in academic librarianship; previous experience working with the public, demonstrated Web-building skills.
