Position for the 2008 – 2009 academic year
User Education –
University Library
(contingent upon budgetary approval)
This graduate student will work with the Head of User Education Programs and user education librarians to provide instruction in the access and use of library resources and in the conducting of effective library research. The student hired will be responsible for maintaining an Access database and sending reports generated from the data contained therein. The successful candidate will also assist with instruction, including providing direct instruction to users, assisting with orientations and tours, and developing print and electronic guides. Specific projects and duties may vary depending upon the qualifications and interests of the student selected.

Requirements: Enrollment in IIST masters or doctoral program. Teaching experience or completion of ISP 649 (User Education: Theory and Technique) preferred. Successful completion of ISP 605 or reference desk experience also preferred.
Responsibilities:
1. Track web-based tutorial usage and maintain the tutorial database.
2. Assist with tours and orientation sessions.
3. Develop online, mp3, or Captivate help modules.
4. Conduct basic user education classes.
5. Assist in the development of instructional material and modules (and possibly html coding such items) for the University Libraries’ User Education Web Page.
6. Develop and update printed guides and handouts to meet the needs of library users.
7. Other duties as appropriate.
Compensation: $13 per hour, 10 hours per week, 15 weeks per semester.
