Dewey Graduate Library Student Reference Assistant

Reference and Projects Position:

Dewey Graduate Library is seeking an IST graduate student to work on the reference desk and on special projects at Dewey Library.  Beginning in the Fall 2013 semester, the student will work 6 hours/week (Sunday 1:00-7:00 pm) at the Dewey Library reference desk and 4 hours/week on public services and collection development projects, which will include leading instructional workshops and investigating new models of reference service.  Contributions to the Dewey blog and newsletter will also be expected.

This position offers the student an opportunity to develop valuable public services and collection development skills. Reference skills will include in-person, “Ask-a-Librarian” e-mail and telephone service.

Minimum requirements: Applicants must have completed a minimum of 9 credit hours in the IST graduate program, including IST 605, Information Sources. This position requires reliability. It also requires an aptitude and enthusiasm for reference service as well as excellent communication skills. Preferred:  Academic background in social sciences and/or law and successful completion of IST 649, Information Literacy Instruction.

The pay rate is $14.50/hour.
