The University at Albany Libraries are honored to be named a recipient of the inaugural Library Excellence in Access and Diversity (LEAD) Award by Insight into Diversity Magazine. The award recognizes academic libraries who have demonstrated a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusive principles in their programs and operations. With this award, the University Libraries will be featured in the March 2024 edition of Insight into Diversity magazine, a premiere publication for diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.

Insight into Diversity commended the University Libraries for the Libros/Arte exhibition, accessible spaces and resources, as well as a collection representative of the diverse campus community.

Samuel Caldwell, Chief Diversity Officer and Associate Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion, told Bethany Bump that “...an award for library excellence in access and diversity is a reflection of our commitment to our Strategic Plan, and to fostering an inclusive environment which includes equitable access to knowledge, information and resources. This work allows us to advance learning and research opportunities for the University at Albany community."

Dr. Leonard A. Slade Jr., Professor Emeritus of Africana Studies and Poet Laureate of The Southern Conference on African-American Studies, shared his congratulations as well. "I have always
believed our University Libraries to be among the
the best in America," Dr. Slade wrote in a message to  faculty and staff. "Insight into Diversity magazine has validated the University Libraries' greatness."

The University Libraries remain committed to upholding the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout all of our pursuits.
