About Freshman Seminars
Freshman seminars were created with the purpose of helping first year students who just graduated from high school, to transition seamlessly into college life. Teaching freshman seminars, also called first year experience courses, has gained popularity nationwide, with some colleges and universities making it as a requirement.
Freshman seminars are not mandatory for students at the University at Albany; however students are advised to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the university and university life, and also gain knowledge in the subject being taught in the course.
Teaching faculty are encouraged to develop and teach a course, and many of them do! The courses are being taught in various disciplines, including history, biology, atmospheric sciences, political sciences, social welfare, geography, languages and cultures, and many more.
