The Anna Radkowski-Lee Graduate Assistantship was created in memory of the long-time Personnel Officer for the University Libraries.

Get practical experience as a cataloger to bolster your resumé. Working with librarians, the graduate student will learn national standards of copy cataloging based on Library of Congress and OCLC member libraries’ records, as well as national authority control practices. Several collections in the M. E. Grenander Department of Special Collections & Archives have been targeted for their interest to researchers, their uniqueness, and lack of access; specific projects will vary depending upon the qualifications and interests of the student and departmental needs.

Primary responsibilities:
• Search Minerva to check for added copies, and OCLC for acceptable cataloging records.
• Catalog and classify materials according to national and local policies and procedures.
• Perform authority work.
• Report monthly statistics to the Head, Cataloging Services Department.

• Stipend of $8,700 per academic year and tuition waiver for 9 credits per semester (20 hours per week, at least 300 hours per semester).

• Must be enrolled in the University at Albany MSIS program for a minimum of nine credits during each semester of work.
• Must have completed six hours of course credit.
• Successful completion of, or enrollment in IST 603, Information Processing

Preferred Requirements:
• Successful completion of, or enrollment in, IST 642, Advanced Cataloging.

Desirable Requirements:
• Interest in pursuing career in cataloging.
• Reading familiarity with a foreign language.
