Free People Read Freely! Sept. 29 - Oct. 6, 2007 Banned Books Week, observed since 1982, is an annual event promoted by the American Library Association during the last week of September. This national event celebrates the freedom to read books expressing all types of viewpoints, even if they are unorthodox or unpopular. It also documents efforts to restrict intellectual freedom.
