Description:Pictured are, left to right: Clifton C. Thorne, New York State College for Teachers, Class of 1949, an unidentified woman, and Eunice B. Whittlesey, New York State College for Teachers, Class of 1944. They are standing on the Academic Podium of the uptown campus, facing north. Thorne is credited with creating the Univeristy College, which was established for freshmen and sophomore students giving them the opportunity to explore a wide variety of subjects before declaring a major course of study. Duplicate of 1555.
