Town of Hempstead Bay Constables arrive on the scene of the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attacks. The Bay Constables were among many CSEA members who assisted with rescue and recovery efforts in the early days following the attacks. The caption reads, an innovative Labor-management expedited resolution process at Finger Lakes Developmental Disabilities Services Office was recognized as one of New York Governor George E. Pataki's 2005 Workforce champions. The process was started in 2001 with an eye toward streamlining the settlement of disciplinary cases. Since the inception, CSEA has estimated its savings at over $150,000. The facility has also saved a similar amount. This photo appeared in the December 2005 edition of The Work Force.  The caption reads, CSEA's first graduating LEAD class. LEAD is CSEA's Leadership Education and Development Program. Thirty-two CSEA activists from across the state completed the first-ever CSEA LEAD program, an intensive, 18-month program to help emerging union activists gain the skills and knowledge necessary to better address the challenges facing the union at every level. The event helped focus attention on the importance of overcoming stigma and addressing mental health needs. A photograph of part of the crowd of CSEA and other union members from around the state who attended the May 3, 2003, Rally for Public Education at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, New York, which was just one event in which union members were instrumental in the events leading to the state Legislature voting overwhelmingly to override Governor George Pataki's vetoes to restore $1.9 billion that Pataki sought to cut, primarily in education and health care funding.
