Minutes: March 31, 2004

The Annual Meeting of the Capital Area Archivists was held on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in conjunction with the spring program at the Albany County Hall of Records in Albany, NY.

Board members present: Craig Carlson, Susan D'Entremont, John Diefenderfer, Rachel Donaldson, Brian Keough, Jean Root Mahalov, Peter Runge, Amy Rupert, Amy Schindler, Bonnie Weddle, Geoff Williams.

Jean Root Mahalov, called the meeting to order at 4:33 p.m.

I. Elections
Elections were held for the positions of president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, membership chair, newsletter editor, and three board director positions.
[Editor's note: Winners of the election were: Amy Schindler, president; Craig Carlson, vice-president; Susan D'Entremont, secretary; Chris Hunter, membership chair; Brian Keough, treasurer; John Diefenderfer, newsletter editor and director; Rachel Donaldson, director; Amy Rupert, director.

II. Business
Susan D'Entremont discussed the need to support legislation eliminating the sunset provision of the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund (LGRMIF) and the Cultural Education Fund. She urged all members to write to their elected officials in support of the sunset provision's elimination. A sample letter and resolution were shared with members. A motion was made by Brian Keough that CAA pass a resolution of support for elimination of the sunset provision. Seconded by Rich Sloma. The motion was passed by the membership of CAA with three abstentions.

CAA's resolution of support for the elimination of the sunset provision of the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund (LGRMIF) and the Cultural Education Fund.

III. Announcements
Anthony Taglianetti discussed the project to create a database for all manuscript collections related to the city of Albany. He began the project while a graduate student in the public history program at the University at Albany, SUNY and it is being completed by the SAA Student Chapter at the University at Albany. It is intended to be available online in 2004.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:58 p.m.
