Dutch QuadrangleThe residence halls on Dutch Quadrangle were named for prominent figures or places from the Dutch New Netherlands, 1613-1664, and also for Dutch families that continued to play a prominent role in the history of New York. Dutch Quadrangle was the first of the Uptown Campus residence hall complexes to be completed. On October 24, 1964, 200 male students were moved into the as yet incomplete Rensselaer & *Rywich* dormitories. The first female students arrived on December 12 and 13, 1964, assisted in their move from temporary housing at the Thruway House by the brothers of the Kappa Beta Fraternity. As the first classes were not held on the Academic Podium until the Fall of 1966, students living in Dutch Quad were bused to classes on the Downtown Campus for the next two years. |
