CUTTING, EDITH (1918– ), folklorist, educator

Includes correspondence with Harold W. Thompson and others, 1941–1977;
manuscripts on folklore, 1945–1959; and documents and printed materials pertaining
to her career at the Johnson City High School, 1939–1976. Cutting was a folklorist
and a high school English teacher in Johnson City, New York.

Includes hand–corrected typescripts of "China–Aufenhalt: Arbeiten über
Astronomie und Volkskunde" (1935), "Chinesische Volksmärchen in Übersetzungen"
(1935), "Materialen von der China–Reise zur Volkskunde und Astronomie Chinas"
(1936), "Kaiser der Idee" (1937), and "Biographisches Wörterbuch,
Beamtetitel Hsiung–nu–Texte" (1943); and offprints of articles on Chinese
history, culture, and folklore, 1935–1957. Born in Potsdam, Eberhard taught
in China and Turkey in the 1930s and at the University of California at
Berkeley.
JONES, LOUIS C. (1908– ), educator
Papers, 1936–1946, 1 ft. (UA–902.004)
Includes press releases pertaining to his career and research on New
York State ghosts and folklore, 1936–1938; correspondence with former students
of the New York State College for Teachers at Albany who were serving in
the U.S. armed forces during World War II, 1942–1946; and photographs of
students in uniform and a card file of all students from the college who
were in military service during World War II, undated. Jones taught English
at the State College for Teachers from 1936 to 1946, when he was appointed
executive director of the New York State Historical Association and Farmers
Museum, Cooperstown.
LANG, ANDREW (1844–1912), writer
Scrapbook, 1898–1912, 1 vol. (MSS–018)
Assembled by an unknown compiler, the scrapbook includes printed
materials and clippings pertaining to the life and work of Andrew Lang,
the English writer and folklorist.
NORTH AMERICAN FIDDLERS HALL OF FAME
Records, 160 audio tapes (APAP-194)
The collection is composed of 160 open reel tapes containing interviews with
significant fiddlers. Tapes are preservation copies created in 1999 from the
orginal cassette tapes. Digital copies and the original recordings are housed
at the North American Fiddlers Hall of Fame in Osceola, NY.
STUDER, NORMAN
Papers, 1817–1988 (APAP–116)
Papers of Norman Studer, educator, folklorist, and writer. The papers primarily document
Studer's activities as an educator at the Little Red School House/Elisabeth Irwin High School,
an educator and administrator at the Downtown Community School, founder and Director of Camp Woodland,
and his various writing projects. The papers reflect Studer's two principal life–long interests:
progressive education and folklore. The collection is particularly strong in its representation of
Catskill folklore and folk music, including manuscript material, photographs, reel–to–reel audio
recordings, and 16mm movies documenting interviews with indigenous Catskill informants, folk festivals,
and life at Camp Woodland. The inclusive dates of the collection are 1817–1988, with the bulk of the
material dating 1952–1978.
WAMC/NORTHEAST PUBLIC RADIO
Records, 1981-2000, 6,795 audio recordings (APAP–138)
WAMC/Northeast Public Radio is a regional public radio network serving parts
of seven northeastern states and is a member of National Public Radio and an
affiliate of Public Radio International. The station's programs cover a number
of issues including education, politics and government, the environment, health
and medical issues, women's issues, and others. Some of the programs in the
collection include: 51 Percent, The Best of Our Knowledge, Capitol Connection,
Dancing on the Air, The Environment Show, The Health Show, The Law Show, Legislative
Gazette, Media Project, Vox Pop, and other regular and special broadcasts.
