About this Website
In the Spring of 2010, a student from the Department of Information Studies
at the University at Albany was assigned the task of processing a collection for
the M.E. Grenander Special Collections and Archives as part of her coursework.
It so happened that she was given the Patricia Stocking Brown papers, for whom the
Patricia Stocking Brown Fund for Feminist Social Justice Research in University
Libraries Award was named. During the course of processing the papers, the student
realized how unique Dr. Brown was in her approach to feminism and other forms of advocacy.
Dr. Brown used her scientific and historical expertise to educate others about issues
in such a way that was non-threatening and even inspiring.
This digital exhibit website is an extension of the Patricia Stocking Brown papers and
physical exhibit displayed by the M.E. Grenander Special Collections and Archives. Both
the physical and digital exhibits were made possible through a grant from the Patricia
Stocking Brown Fund for Feminist Social Justice Research in University Libraries Award.
It is hoped that students applying for future awards will be motivated by learning more about
Dr. Brown's illustrious life.
