UA Libraries

Journals, Standing Orders and Databases

Cancelled as of January 1, 2007

The following message was sent to all Deans and Department Chairperson from Frank D’Andraia, Dean and Director of Libraries:

Last spring I wrote to advise you that, without a budget increase, the Libraries’ acquisitions budget shortfall for FY07 would be $450,000 - $500,000. At that time our bibliographers, working with your faculty, identified strategies for meeting reduction targets of $300,000, $400,000 and $500,000. During the summer we were informed that the Libraries will receive a $250,000 increase for acquisitions this year and, consequently, we implemented the reduction strategies each department identified for the $300,000 level. This $250,000 increase allowed us to protect, this year, the departments with the smallest and most vulnerable collections, i.e., whose targets at the $300,000 level were less than $1,500.

The list of cancelled journals, standing orders and databases that have been cancelled have been posted on our Web site. These cancellations have already been placed with our subscription agents and will take effect on January 1, 2007.

I would like to thank you and your faculty for all the assistance you provided last spring. If you have any questions about the reduction process or about individual titles on the list please contact your bibliographer or Mary Casserly, Assistant Director for Collections and User Services.
