I. General Purpose

The University Libraries collect materials on management to support the undergraduate Business Administration program, the graduate concentration in human resources within the MBA program, the doctoral program in Organizational Studies, and the individual research of faculty and students. The focus of the collection is on human resources, organizational behavior, and organizational theory. Other areas of interest include leadership, conflict management, business ethics, work motivation and attitudes, and the organizational process.

II. Subject and Language Modifiers

Languages: English is the primary language of the collection, although materials in other languages may be selected by specific request.

Geographical Areas: The primary focus of the collection is on the United States, although materials on management and organizations in other countries are also included for comparison.

Chronological Periods: The emphasis of the collection is on contemporary theory and practice. However, historical materials are occasionally added to give the collection perspective.

III. Description of Materials Selected

Types of Materials Collected: The management science collection covers both theoretical and practical works in the field. Books and journals comprise the majority of the collection. Indexes and databases provide access to the materials in the collection. Several key databases, include PsycInfo and ABI/Inform.

Human resources laws and regulations are an important component of the collection. The Government Publications collection helps to support these needs through the reports of agencies such as the Department of Labor and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration.

Types of Materials Excluded: Theses and dissertations are not selected. Reprints and case studies are acquired only on specific request. Textbooks are excluded.

V. Other Factors

Many of the materials of interest to Management Science are also used by the Psychology Department. Management Science draws heavily on the psychology literature to provide the theoretical framework for management practices.
