Center for Applied Linguistics

Provides a wide selection of Web resources including megasites and sites offering learning materials for teachers and students. Search by keyword, topics, or resources.

Center for Multilingual Multicultural Research (University of Southern California)

"The Center provides a base for those interested in multilingual education, English-as-a second language, and foreign language instruction, multicultural education and related areas; and the opportunity to come together for research and program collaboration."

Interesting Things for ESL Students

Includes quizzes, word games, word puzzles, proverbs, slang expressions, anagrams, a random-sentence generator, and other study materials. The primary focus is for ESL, but native English speakers may also find some interesting things on this site.

National Association for Bilingual Education

The NABE website provides information on publications, conferences and professional issues in the field of bilingual education.

National Clearinghouse for English Language Acquisition and Language Instruction Educational Programs (NCELA)

Formerly, the National Clearinghouse for Bilingual Education. Features language and education links, online library (includes selected full-text journal articles), information on legislation, and more.

TEFL.NET

Resources for EFL/ESL/ESOL Teachers. Includes TEFL.NET Inspire!, an electronic magazine for TEFL teachers, as well as lesson plans, classroom handouts, and more.

TESL-EJ Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language

TESL-EJ is fully refereed, freely-distributed electronic journal. It is an internationally- recognized source of ESL and EFL information for people in scores of countries.

TESOL, Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, Inc.: A Global Education Association

Provides access to information about the organization, news, publications, professional development, professional activities, standards, resources for teachers and researchers, and position statements of the TESOL association .

The Learning Page (Library of Congress)

"The Learning Page is designed to help educators use the American Memory Collections to teach history and culture. Apple Learning Interchange

Educator's Reference Desk

The American Distance Education Consortium

The Concord Consortium

Digital Divide Network

Distance Education Clearinghouse

Managed and maintained by the University of Wisconsin-Extension, the site brings distance education information from Wisconsin, national, and international sources. Includes links to articles, bibliographies, electronic journals, and many other resources.

International Technology Education Association (ITEA)

WOCATE - World Council of Associations for Technology Education

National Institute for Literacy

Focus is on adult literacy at all life stages. Click on "Site Map," then select an area of interest. Includes access to LINCS (Literacy Information aNd Communication System) an online information and communications network for adult and family literacy.

Children's Literature Web Guide (David K. Brown, University of Calgary, Canada)

Internet resources related to books for children and young adults. An attractive, well-organized, and user friendly site for anyone who is interested in children's literature. Search by keyword or browse topics.

The Clearinghouse on Reading, English, and Communication

Formerly ERIC Clearinghouse on Reading, English, and Communication. A vast and useful source of information. Provides links to other organizations dedicated to the advancement of reading and literacy.

National Research Center on English Learning and Achievement (University at Albany, SUNY)

Among its many useful offerings for improving reading, writing, and language skills are publications such as CELA research reports (1989+) and CELA's newsletter, English Update. Click on "Newsletter" for full text of the Center's newsletter going back to 1996. It also provides links to Web sites of research institutes, professional associations, ERIC clearinghouses, and several online journals.

National Writing Project (NWP)

Supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, National Writing Project Interactive (NWPi) is free and open to everyone. By joining NWPi, users have access to online discussion groups, the email newsletter, event registration, online conferences and forums, and more.

National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy

Offers descriptions of research projects, provides links to related Web sites, and more.

New York State English Council

Click on "Early Career" for links to various resources related to language arts, New York State Certification, National Board Certification, and other topics, including lesson plans and teaching ideas for teachers.

New York State Reading Association

Provides information for members and links to related Web sites.

ProLiteracy Worldwide

Includes national and international proliteracy programs. It's Verizon Literacy Network (VLN) is a free, online tool that uses computers and other technology to deliver information and resources to anyone who wants to improve their own literacy skills or the reading and writing skills of someone else.

Reading is Fundamental (RIF)

The nation's largest children's literacy organization. Includes online resources for local RIF coordinators, educators, and parents.

Testing & Evaluation

Buros Institute Center for Testing

Provides keyword searching for locating test reviews, an alphabetical list of test titles, and category searching. The latter classifies all tests included in the Mental Measurements Yearbook series (since the 9th edition, 1985) into 18 major subject categories.

CRESST (National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing)

The Center provides research and development on standards that improves assessment and accountability systems for both K-12 and adult learning.

ETS (Educational Testing Service)

Information on college and graduate school admissions tests.

Kaplan Educational Centers

For-profit organization. Provides information on preparation for standardized admissions tests.

The Princeton Review

A commercial site, but it also offers free information that is helpful to students, educators, and admissions offficers, such as information on college admissions and achievement tests, a glossary of relevant terms, links to the state education agencies in each U.S. state, and the educational standards endorsed by each state.
