National Assessment Governing Board

An independent, bipartisan group whose members include governors, state legislators, local and state school officials, educators, business representatives, and members of the general public. National Board for Professional Teaching Standards

Develops professional standards and create a voluntary system to certify teachers who meet those standards. It also provides state and local information as well as tips on how to prepare a portfolio.
