Center for Research Libraries - Research Collections

Access to materials from the Center for Research Libraries is provided through the University Libraries' Interlibrary Loan service. This service is available to members of the university community.
Doctoral Dissertations

The Center collects international doctoral dissertations from countries other than the United States and Canada. The collection includes all printed French dissertations (except medical) from 1952 forward.

France

Includes historical and political documents with emphasis on the revolutions of 1789 and 1848. Consists of several important collections of microfilmed primary sources, for example, newspapers from 1848, nineteenth century political pamphlets, the Journal officiel de la république Française, several archival collections of official agencies of the French government, e.g. the Ministère des affaires étrangères (scattered holdings), Enquêtes des préfets de l'Empire (Statistical Sources on the History of France - 1795 - 1815 ), and more.

Literature - French

This collection includes microfilmed material entitled: Eighteenth century French literature : fiction and poetry, French books before 1601, French books, 1601-1700, French drama, French literary journals, Ouvrages sur Voltaire, 1788-1826, and Les Voltairiens.

CRITER, la base de données terminologiques

Click on "Consulter la base" to search for officially approved terms, expressions, and definitions in French provided by the Délégation générale à la langue française et aux langues de France. "CRITER (Corpus du Réseau Interministériel de Terminologie), la base de données terminologiques de la Délégation générale à la langue française, comprend désormais l'ensemble des termes publiés au Journal Officiel par la Commission générale de terminologie et de néologie, soit près de 3000 termes français avec leur définition et leurs équivalents en langue étrangère."

Le grand dictionnaire terminologique     (Office québécois de la langue française, Government of Québec)

An easy to use dictionary in French and English. Includes links to additional dictionaries and other reference works, such as La banque de dépannage linguistique, which provides information regarding grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary, and abbreviations. Provides a glossary and guide to pronunciation of the popular speech of Brussels. Le brusseler reflects its bilingual milieu of French and Flemish. Current Research      (The Society for French Studies, UK)

A growing collection of electronic versions of texts which are not widely available elsewhere. Sources of links to electronic journals are numerous but scattered. Go to the University Libraries' Online Public Access Catalog to search for specific titles, such as Yale French Studies. If you need further help in identifying journals that provide full-text electronically, please ask a reference librarian for assistance.

"Revue des radicaux noirs de langue française publiée par Mongo Beti et son épouse Odile Tobner de 1978 à 1991." The first five issues of Peuples Noirs, Peuples Africains were made available online in April 2003; subsequent issues will be added to the site at the rate of one per month. Search Engines and Subject Directories

Most of these tools are either in French or offer the option of searching in French. For additional resources (English language for the most part), consult Search the Internet on the University Libraries' homepage. Select the categories "Internet Search Engines" and "Internet Subject Directories."

Useful English language subject directories for French and francophone studies are: Bubl Link and Infomine. Useful search engines include: allthe web, Google, and Teoma.

Francité - portail francophone, moteur de recherche

Search by keywords or subject. Subject categories include: art, cinema, culture, society, education, politics, government, news, libraries, dictionaries, and others. Users may select "Web Francité" or "Images" for keyword searching.

Google - France

French language version of Google, the popular search engine. Choose: "to search Web", "Pages Francophones", or "Pages: France". Offers simple and advanced searching options.
