Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO)

An international organization created to promote education, research and technical cooperation among the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Latin American Studies Association (LASA)

The largest professional association for individuals and institutions involved with Latin America.

Organization of American States

The oldest regional organization in the world. All countries in the Americas are members. The OAS collects data on economic, political and social issues of member states.

Washington Office on Latin America

WOLA is an organization whose purpose is to promote human rights issues, equitable economic development and sustainable development in Latin America. The site contains a variety of articles on these issues.

H-LATAM Discussion Network

A site which includes a discussion list, reviews of scholarly books and monographs, and tables of contents to a variety of Latin American history journals. Affiliated with the Conference of Latin American History (CLAH).

Latin American Network Information Center

LANIC is the largest and most comprehensive site for access to information on, or about, Latin America and the Caribbean. The site is searchable by both country and subject area.

Latin World

An excellent source for general information about Latin America and the Caribbean. Access is provided to radio broadcasts, cultural sites, company information and, "best new internet sites."

Southwest Center for Environmental Research and Policy

This site contains information relating to the U.S.-Mexican border region. Along with the texts of research reports written by SCERP there are links to a variety of interesting sites which focus on environmental, trade, and policy issues of the region.

Human Rights

Casa Alianza

Home page of Covenant House which concerns itself with the rights of children in Latin America. Includes information on street children, illegal adoptions, child labor and the sexual exploitation of children.

Human Rights in Latin America

A large site which contains articles, lists of human rights NGO's and links to other sites by country.

National Coalition on Haitian Rights

The NCHR is an organization which seeks to disseminate information about and promote human rights for Haitian-Americans and Haitian refugees. Information on legislation which relates to the Haitian community can be found here as well as news from various sources such as the Agence Haitienne de Presse and the Miami Herald, among others.

The Vanished Gallery

Information on human rights during the military rule in Argentina can be located at this site including articles, a bibliography and the names of the "desaparecidos."

British Library for Development Studies

This site contains the library catalog and journals database of the BLDS at the Institute of Development Studies, Brighton, UK. The database includes over 116,000 records of documents on economic and social development.

Handbook of Latin American Studies

A selective index and one of the most important sources for literature on Latin American issues. Over fifty years of indexing is available online. The library also owns the printed index: Ref. Z 1605 H23.

Latin Americanist Research Resources Project

Inter-American Foundation

Contains information on development grants, fellowships, and grant statistics by country.

Inter-American Development Bank

Contains a wide array of data on regional economic indicators such as population, national accounts, debt, and also information on trade and income. The IDB annual publication, "Economic and Social Progress in Latin America" is also available at this site.

International Trade Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce

Information on U.S. trade with Latin America and the Caribbean is available at this site.

Latin American Government Information

A collection of official government information resources maintained by the UC Berkeley Library.

Latin American Government Documents Project

Arranged by country, the database provides links to government sites within Latin America and also includes links to a variety of statistical sources.

National Security Archive

The National Security Archive is an independent non-governmental research organization which collects and makes available declassified documents obtained through the "Freedom of Information Act." Consult this site for valuable information on the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Inspector General's critique of the CIA and Bay of Pigs Invasion. Other material of interest may be put up as it is made available.

U.S. Agency for International Development

Selected economic and social data for Latin American and Caribbean countries are available at this site, including data on health, population growth, deforestation, literacy, trade and economic growth.
