Washington, DC determines the official subject headings.
While they can be a little bit tricky to figure out, they
can be very precise, and lead you to just the information you are looking for.
Here are some sample subject headings that you have seen once before:

Street music and musicians--New York
LC Subject Headings are frequently divided by geographical location, as above, or by time period, such as:

Popular Music--1981-1990
Or by type of material or slant of the material:
