Dewey Graduate Library

graduate level social sciences library, with a collection tailored to researchers in Criminal Justice, Library and Information Studies, Public Administration and Policy, and Social Welfare.

About Us

Located in historic Hawley Hall on the downtown campus, the Dewey Graduate Library offers: computer workstations and printers; comfortable study areas; book, periodical and microform scanners; and photocopiers.

Dewey Library boasts a collection of over 135,000 items, including books, journal subscriptions, microforms, videos and software. The collections at the Dewey Library support the information research needs of the students and faculty affiliated with the academic programs and research centers on the downtown campus. The library is the physical location for core collections of books and academic journals supporting research in criminal justice, information science, public administration, public policy, and social welfare. The Dewey Library houses a print collection of reference materials supporting the same programs, including titles relevant to political science, and a print law collection for New York State and United States federal law. Patrons also have access to thousands of UAlbany subscription electronic journals, ebooks and databases.

Our Space

The Dewey Library is your work space; a peaceful and inspiring setting for projects, course prep and personal research. The walls of our quiet study area tell the history of Albany through several Great Depression-era murals (1937-38) and are illuminated by ten intricate stained glass windows given as gifts from graduating classes. Our lower level features quiet and group study space.
