The Information Literacy Department at the University Libraries, together with the University’s Art Museum, will once again be hosting their Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon.This year’s event will take place virtually on March 29th via Zoom, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. ET.

Anyone is invited to register. No prior Wikipedia editing experience is necessary. Instructional resources and mini tutorials will be available virtually along with the list of the suggested artists for editing.

This annual international cultural event has gained much attention since its beginnings in 2014. A 2011 survey by the Wikimedia Foundation revealed that fewer than 10% of Wikipedia editors identified as female and in 2018 the number of female editors was below 20%. This significant gender imbalance is also reflected in the content that is produced on Wikipedia.

The Art + Feminism project brings more female editors into the Wikipedia world and expands the representation of women, especially in topics related to female artists.
