Part-time (20 hours per week), Temporary Position
The University at Albany Libraries (State University of New York, Albany, NY) seek a part-time, temporary librarian to serve as subject liaison for political science, public administration, public policy, and law. Working collaboratively with stakeholders and colleagues, this librarian maintains collections appropriate to the curriculum and research needs of the students and faculty working in these subject areas.
This temporary (7-month) position will cover the planned absence of the current subject liaison from January 19, 2022 through August 22, 2022, and is not subject to renewal. The position will be staffed at 20 hours per week in-person/on-site at the Dewey Graduate Library on UAlbany’s downtown campus.
Responsibilities

Assesses library collections and gifts to the library in the subjects of Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy and Law.

Attends and participates in Collections Division and Scholarly Communication Team meetings.

Provides instruction, assistance in use of electronic resources, and offers consultations for faculty and students in assigned departments.

Serves as a reference librarian at the Dewey Library. Provides general reference services using a variety of platforms during assigned hours. May include evening hours and/or weekend hours.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:

MLS/MSIS or comparable degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or foreign equivalent) or expected completion of MLS/MSIS degree by May 2022.

Through direct experience or coursework:
-
Demonstrated interest or experience in collection development strategies and processes

Demonstrated interest or experience in providing instruction in a variety of formats, including videoconferencing, in-person, and recorded tutorials

Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Direct experience in managing library collections in the fields of Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science and/or Law.

Previous work with researchers, including graduate-level students and faculty.

Knowledge of or experience with scholarly communication trends and activities, focusing on open scholarship and social justice issues.
