Fall 2021 Semester Newsletter

The University Libraries had a busy fall semester, with events including:

On March 24, 2021, the University at Albany Senate passed a resolution in support of the University’s Open Access Policy. The primary aim of this policy is to make UAlbany’s valuable scholarship more widely available and freely accessible.

In November, Dean Mugridge spoke to a gathering of librarians at the Sharjah International Library Conference in the United Arab Emirates. In the following interview, she tells us about her experience.

When it comes to science and sustainability, few are as passionate and dedicated as Irina Holden.

I am very excited and thankful to be returning to the University Libraries for another academic year. Despite the many challenges of launching the Library Ambassador Program in 2021, we were able to have a committed cohort with one returning ambassador and ongoing support from previous ambassadors. 

Meredith began volunteering in the Preservation Department in 2006, a year after she retired. “I wanted to do in retirement things I hadn’t time for while working,” she explained. 

Library Ambassador Brian McCorkle details the joy of wandering the stacks in the University Libraries.

The University Libraries’ Professional Activities Committee sponsored a session titled, Mind(fulness) at Work, on September 20, 2021.
 

In October 2021, the University Libraries successfully completed the preservation of the No Gun Ri archive in Scholars Archive. As the first web archive project in Scholars Archive, we caught up with Professor Donghee Sinn to discuss the venture.  

Professor Sattinger presented "Costs of Higher Education and Inequality" on Thursday, November 11. 

Welcome to Collections Spotlight, a new and recurring column in the Library Update newsletter. In each installment, Jane Kessler, Director of Collection Development, will showcase an area of the Libraries’ extensive holdings. In this installment, we’re excited to introduce the Popular Books collection, a feature that is sure to delight readers across the campus community.
