The University at Albany celebrated the opening of the Great Dane Hall of Service in the University Library on May 7, 2025. The newly renovated space features the Veteran's Wall of Honor, as well as several new displays recognizing service in many forms, including the Peace Corps and community involvement.
"As you may recall, back in September, we gathered upstairs for the re-dedication of the President’s Reading Room," said Dean of Libraries Carey Hatch. "What better way to close the loop on the academic year than by coming together once more in the library to honor a new space recognizing the service of our students, faculty, and alumni?"

President Havidán Rodríguez, addressed the audience - which included students, faculty, staff, alumni, and veterans. President Rodríguez is himself a veteran of the Air Force; his name was added to the wall.
Dahl Taylor, the artist who designed the Veteran's Wall, was in attendance. Joe Bonilla, the President of the Alumni Association, and Josh Fitzpatrick, the Director of Public Information for the New York State Department of Veterans’ Services were also present.
“As Great Danes, we are all called to serve our community in different ways," President Rodríguez told Amy Geduldig. "The new Great Dane Hall of Service is a testament to the University at Albany’s commitment to the veterans who are a part of our community, including students, faculty, staff and alumni. The new Hall of Service also pays homage to myriad other ways Great Danes serve our community, including through mentoring, volunteering and community-engaged scholarship. As a veteran, I am proud of my service to this country and proud to honor the service of my fellow UAlbany community members.”
