Summer 2021 Semester Newsletter

Welcome to the Summer 2021 edition of The Library Update newsletter!

Aaron Bradt, an intern for Special Collections & Archives, takes us inside his experience cataloging the Fox Hollow Folk Rock Festival. 

Even in the face of a non-traditional schedule, the University Libraries had a very productive academic year year. 

With the Fall 2021 semester opening on Monday, August 23, the University Libraries are ready to welcome students to campus. After nearly seventeen months of modified services, the Libraries are scheduled to open on the first day of classes with a more familiar look. 

The University Libraries are pleased to recognize Rebecca Nous as recipient of the 2020-2021 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Librarianship. 

The University Libraries announced in April that graduate student Ruth Murcia was the 2021 Patricia Stocking Brown Research Award recipient. A second-year master’s student in the Department of History, Ruth received $500 for her research to explore the complicated relationships between labor organizers, unions, and undocumented workers from Central America in New York during the 1980s. 

In May, the University Libraries presented the second annual Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Research to Kimberly Easlick, a junior in the History Department.

Before retiring, Regina Testa stopped by to answer a few of our questions. 

Following the guidance of the SUNY Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) Accessibility Policy, the Libraries have undertaken a number of efforts to enhance accessibility, both online and in-person.

“From the beginning, it was important to the Climate Committee to make every part of our programming related to our group read of So You Want to Talk About Race meaningful during the 2020-2021 academic year,” said Jodi Boyle, co-organizer of the program.
