The University at Albany Libraries is seeking a graduate student to support student outreach, engagement, and programming initiatives. A key component of this work includes helping to oversee and support the Library Ambassadors program, a group of volunteer undergraduate and graduate students who promote library resources, services, and events while fostering peer-to-peer connections across campus.  

The Outreach and Marketing Graduate Assistant will play an active role in developing and executing outreach strategies that enhance student engagement with the Libraries. This includes supporting recruitment, training, and coordinating Library Ambassadors, as well as contributing to the planning and implementation of library events and programs. The Outreach and Marketing Graduate Assistant will also assist with the Libraries’ marketing efforts, including creating and helping to manage content for social media platforms, with a primary focus on Instagram. This position offers hands-on experience in outreach strategy, event programming, student engagement, and marketing within an academic library setting.  

Responsibilities

  • Support the recruitment, training, and coordination of the University Libraries’ Library Ambassador program
  • Assist in the planning, promotion, execution, and assessment of library programs and outreach events
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of marketing strategies for student engagement initiatives  
  • Create and manage content for the Libraries’ social media accounts, with a focus on Instagram
  • Collaborate with library faculty, staff, and student employees on outreach and engagement efforts
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in a University at Albany graduate degree program on a full-time basis during each semester of work.
  • A friendly public service-oriented attitude is a must.  
  •  Self-motivated: able to complete tasks in a timely manner and make significant progress with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use social media platforms to communicate or market to diverse populations, or a strong interest in learning this skill.
  • Strong computer skills, especially as they relate to the creation of multimedia items and content.
  • Flexibility in adjusting to new outreach-related assignments as needs arise.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with customer service atmosphere and diverse population.
  • Interest in working in libraries or the information science field, particularly in relation to library outreach and marketing.  
  • Experience creating and editing both short and long-format videos.

Hours/Compensation:

  • 20 hours per week with a flexible schedule. Most work will be performed during the traditional workweek (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.). Evening or weekend hours may be required to accommodate programming and campus outreach schedules. Student may work during semester breaks and intersession hours, though this must be discussed with the supervisor beforehand.  
  • Stipend of $18,000 for the 2026-2027 academic year and a tuition scholarship for 9 graduate credits per semester at the in-state rate.
  • The work of this position is intended to be performed in-person and on-site at the University Library on the uptown campus.
