Each winter, I like to spend some time visiting museums throughout the region. On a recent trip, I thought about how there is significant commonality between museums and libraries. We share a common purpose of promoting and supporting the campus priority of engagement and service.

The University Libraries are honored to be named recipients of the inaugural Library Excellence in Access and Diversity (LEAD) Award from Insight Into Diversity magazine.

"Libraries and museums are my favorite places in the world," says Corinna Ripps Schaming, Director and Chief Curator for the University Art Museum. "They're the places where really all human achievement can be contained and shared."

The Libros/Arte exhibit showcased over 80 handmade books by small presses that push the boundaries of traditional printing techniques while addressing a range of political, social, and cultural subjects. A truly collaborative effort, the exhibit was made possible through the joint efforts of the University Libraries, the University Art Museum, the Department of Languages, Literature, and Culture, and the Department of Latino American, Caribbean, and U.S. Latino Studies.

We asked our student workforce to review what they've been reading lately. Come for plenty of good book recommendations! 

The University Libraries welcomed new staff members this winter. We also extended our best wishes to few long-time colleagues as they entered into retirement.
