There's a buzz around the University Libraries as the football season kicks off on Saturday against Fordham. 

All are invited to the International Students Reception on August 15 at 4:00 p.m. in the University Library.

A few weekends ago, I had the privilege of sitting on the platform party at commencement. It brought me great joy to celebrate this life-changing accomplishment with our students. As the ceremony drew to a close, I thought about how the success of the University Libraries is inherently linked with the successes of our students.

The Libraries had an eventful Spring 2023 semester, including:

"Without libraries, I would not be Doctor Valverde," says the Dean and Vice Provost of the Center for International Education and Global Strategy.

The Libraries are pleased to share a new multipurpose space with the campus community in the former Current Periodicals Room. 

The University at Albany held the inaugural campus Showcase on April 27. More than 1,500 students participated by presenting their scholarly and creative works. The University Libraries sponsored two Showcase activities: Peer Marketing at Work and titled Art, Resistance, and Mobilization in Latin America and the Caribbean: A Multidisciplinary Approach to the Libros/Arte Exhibition and Collection.

We caught up with our two Anna Radkowski-Lee Graduate Assistants, Prashant and Alison, to talk about what they learned this year.

On Tuesday, March 7, the University Libraries’ Professional Activities Committee welcomed Five Quad Volunteer Ambulance Service to provide CPR and AED training. Led by sophomore Five Quad Chief Kevin Zoda, the training featured the assistance of student volunteers. 

The Libraries are pleased to provide members of the University at Albany community with complimentary access to the Wall Street Journal. 

Said Deborah Bernnard, who retired after nearly 25 years of service to the University: "I’ve had a long rewarding career at the University Libraries. Most of the reason it has been so satisfying is because I had the privilege to work with smart dedicated people."

The Libraries mourn the loss of Nancy Poehlmann, Special Collections Cataloging Coordinator, who passed away on December 15, 2022.
